You can't have a railroad without having track. In our hobby the track
has two rails separated by 7.5" and is usually made up of sections (we
refer to as track "panels") 10 or 12 feet long.

by the proper distance.

the second screw on each end of the ties to secure the rails.
A completed panel is stacked and a new one is started.
24 12 foot panels: 48 rails, 624 ties, 2496 screws -> 288 feet of
track. One evening's work for 9 guys ...
