On the third weekend of July each year the Camp Creek Threshers (who own the
land that our railroad is on) hold their annual show. We (CCRR) run our
locomotives as a display during the show. During these shows we do not give
rides to the public because they have about 20,000 people in attendance and we are not setup
with crowd control, etc. to enable us to handle the demand. So we let
people know that if they would like to ride they may come during one of our
regular Run Days or our Fall Meet in September (Schedule).
We had 11 engines and over 30 cars on display for this years show, the most we have ever
had at the track.

I'd
like to thank all the members that worked hard to get the track ready (including
relocating the South side of the North wye to lower the grade from 3.5% to
2.5%), displayed their engines, manned
(or is it "personed") the "sales" table (Thanks Esther!) and
in general make it a very successful show.
Chuck Hackett
President CCRR
Here are some photos taken at this years show:
Gary Quillen, Mike Woody (swinging the sledge) and Rick Weisgerber working on
resetting the big crossing that allows access to the steaming bays on short lengths of full size railroad ties as part
of the preparations for the show.
This is a shot of the steaming bay area (looking Southwest). It was taken
from the windmill located within the "North Loop". Chuck
Hackett's UP 844 Northern (4-8-4) is on the fourth bay from the left, Gary
Quillen's ATSF Hudson (4-6-4) is on the sixth bay and number 10 is approaching
the crossing in the background. The structure at the lower right is our
Transfer Table that is used to transport the locomotives to and from the
steaming bays. It rolls left and right on heavy 3 inch box beam
"rails" and has a track section that goes up and down on 1"
diameter Acme screws driven by an electric motor through a chain at the top.
Larry Engel on "Chloe", an 0-4-2 plantation engine (coal fired).
This was the third engine built by CCRR member Ron Beckman. Larry
did a fine job giving her a new paint job and general fix up a couple of years
back.
Whit Johnson (Ames, Iowa) cleaning the ash pan on his 4-6-2 Pacific #2856 (coal fired)
on it's shakedown run after it's recent major overhaul by Ron Beckman.
This engine was the second engine that Ron built.
Charlie Cook on his beautiful Shay #2 (coal fired). It, along with the
tank car, caboose and three disconnected truck log cars were also built by club
member Ron Beckman. This was Ron's fifth engine and was finished in 1994.
Ron Beckman's latest creation is another (slightly different) 0-4-2
"Chloe" (coal fired - of course!). Ron doesn't think he'll have
her running for the September show but he hopes to have her all ready to run at
the start of the 2001 season.
Gary Quillen (left) and Rick Weisgerber (right) getting Gary's 4-6-4 Hudson ATSF
3462 (propane fired) ready to go. This engine was built by Harry Hass of
Tehachapi California and was finished in 1969. Gary is a Corridor Manager
at the Union Pacific Dispatch Center in Omaha so he is quite familiar with the
"Rules of The Road".
Bob "Doc" Holcombe with old (but new to him) "Number
10". Number 10 is a 0-6-0 and is well known around CCRR. She
was the fourth engine built by (you guessed it) Ron Beckman.
